Gringo or foreigner?
As you can see from my blog title you will see the word “gringo” now you will hear this a lot in old Mexican movies and such but until you move to a Latin American country like Peru that will be used to get your attention by the majority of people.
The word really has a long history and has changed throughout history one popular meaning was used to refer to the Americans during the Mexican-American war.

Now it is used to refer to anyone who has a pale complexion and light coloured hair. Throughout my time in Peru I have been called gringo on many occasions, for me it is ok to be called gringo by friend however, people may use the word and take advantage of you this is where many people like me draw the line.
So when travelling in Peru don’t take too much notice of people when they call you gringo and just laugh it off but remember always be aware and keep safe.
